I’ve spent a few sessions in the pool this week using the technique you recommended and I’ve set a few PBS as a result. I’ve never gone under 1:35 over 100m before and yesterday I clocked 1:28, and that wasn’t ‘sprinting’ either. My PB in my 300m warm up was 5:01 and in the same session clocked 4:55! You’ve opened up a whole new level of opportunity in the water I always knew (hoped) was there but never thought I’d be able to find.

This weekend I completed my first Sprint Distance triathlon since the clinic and it was here that I really felt the improvement in my swimming. After having time to complete some more pool sessions focusing on the techniques I learnt, everything from the clinic just seemed to come together in one race and for the first time in my life I actually felt that the swim was somewhat ‘effortless’ even with all the chaos of not being at the very back of the pack for the first time in a race. I was able to relax and focus on my stroke and the key areas that I learnt from the clinic. My swim leg time for Sprint Triathlon was 14:06 about 11 seconds faster per 50m faster than my previous best of 19:33. Not only was it a huge PB, I finished with more energy than ever before and felt competitive and fresh throughout the swim (rather than finishing last and exhausted) which led me to huge PBs in both my bike leg and my run leg as well. Being able to improve by so much so quickly knowing I still have a lot to learn is a great feeling, so I just wanted to say thank you very much and I really enjoyed the clinic.

Super happy! Thanks so much for your help. It’s not only changed the way I engage with the water and apply myself as I do it, but it has also changed the way I swim in events. A whole range of opportunities have now opened up in relation to the ability to interact with other swimmers in the water and take advantage of various drafting opportunities. Now the advantage of drafting is also particularly noticeable, where in the past it didn’t feel significant.

I had swum a 1km time trial with my Tri-squad the Wednesday night before the clinic, in a time of 22’20”. The timing of your clinic was perfect as I then had 6 weeks to practice what I learnt before the next time trial (at 2-3 swim sessions a week).
