Highlights:
- Hungarian breaststroker Daniel Gyurta breaks the world record in the 200m breaststroke, just touching out the Brit Michael Jamieson.
- Chinese Liuyang Jiao overtakes Spaniard Mireia Belmonte Garcia in the last 50m of the 200m butterfly to win by over a second. The Chinese are showing amazing back end speed at these Olympics.
- It wasn’t to be for Aussie James Magnussen in the men’s 100m freestyle, with American Nathan Adrian touching out the favourite by 0.01. With 15m to go Magnussen looked like he had it won, but Adrian came home strong in the last 5m and got the touch.
- The US came from behind in the women’s 4x200m freestyle to take the gold over the Aussies. With Olympic champion Allison Schmidt anchoring the team, it would have taken an incredible swim by Alicia Coutts from Australia to hold on to the lead.
