- The women’s 100m freestyle was taken out by the favourite Ranomi Krowidjojo in 53.00, an Olympic record time. The girls were hot on her heels finishing only two-tenths behind here. Aussie Mel Schlanger just missed out on the medals.
- Michael Phelps breaks his individual gold medal ‘hoodoo’ to clinch the 200 IM title over Ryan Lochte. Phelps became the first male swimmer to win 3 gold medals in the same event for three consecutive Olympics. Way to go!
- Ryan Lochte was favourite again, but just didn’t have the legs to stop US teammate Tyler Clary coming over the top of him to win the men’s 200m backstroke. Lochte finished third behind Japan’s Ryosuke Irie
- Rebecca Soni breaks the world record in the women’s 200m breaststroke, swimming 2:19,59 and dominating the race from the very beginning.
