If you find your times with a pull buoy are significantly faster. than without one, you’re not alone. It’s common to experience that because a pull buoy will lift your body position and reduce your need to kick, saving energy. You can however improve your kick, so become a better swimmer without a pull buoy. In today’s video we cover the 5 steps to swimmer faster when you don’t have a pull buoy.
- Step 1: Hold your body and legs correctly by lengthening through your spine and switching your core on
- Step 2: Be a ballerina in a bucket by kicking with reasonably straight legs and keeping the kick a little wider than your body line
- Step 3: Use your kick for balance and timing, not propulsion, by avoiding kicking hard and using your kick to keep your legs up
- Step 4: Time your kick correctly by coordinating your catch and kick on the same side at least on every second stroke
- Step 5: Work on your kick by doing some pure kicking in your sessions, such as vertical kick or kicking on the side, to develop your kick evenly in both directions
